More Great Tips and Resources for Using Evernote

Posted on 08:44 by Unknown

Evernote is one of my favorite resources and tools that I use daily as a teacher, student, writer, presenter, and person. Evernote is a way to get organized. It is a great, free resource that allows you to easily capture information using whatever device or operating system you use. It then makes this information accessible and searchable from anywhere. Their tagline: “Remember Everything.” It is a digital notebook that allows you to take text notes and audio notes, clip web pages, upload images and files, and much more.

This year, I was lucky enough to win a free premium account for me and my students, along with training from Evernote, and I will be documenting my journey and experience on this blog.

Evernote is easy to use, but there are many features that people don't know about and some features that do take a little help to use. Here are some great resources for using Evernote:

1. Three Evernote Email Tricks - you can email notes to yourself and others can share notes with you via email.

2. 19 Practical Evernote Ideas for Students - free PDF download with great tips and ideas for Students.

3. How to Use Evernote, the Missing Manual - free PDF with great tips, how-to's and more.

If you have never used Evernote, now is a great time to get started. If you do use Evernote, check out these great resources to help you get more out of it.

Anatomy of a Teacher - infographic with interesting data on teachers and schools

Posted on 13:26 by Unknown

Anatomy of a Teacher is an interesting infographic with data on teachers - percentage female vs. male, public vs. private schools, student/teacher ratios, salary, working hours and more. Take a look and see if the data matches your situation and share it with others.

Attachment Viewer for Gmail - view & edit docs and more in Gmail

Posted on 13:12 by Unknown

I use InstallFree Nexus and Rndr on my Chromebook and in Chrome to LibreOffice and Java on any device, including my Chromebook.

They have another great extension for Chrome, Attachment Viewer for Gmail, which lets you view, edit, save and share attachments in Gmail. You can work with Office and other document formats directly from Gmail, on any device running Chrome, including Chromebooks, Chromeboxes, Linux, Mac and PCs. This means you can work on them directly in your browser without any installs or downloads on your device.

This is a great resource for Chromebooks and shared computers and is very useful in educational settings where you don't want files downloaded or shared computers are being used.

Get it in the Google Chrome Web Store or go to InstallFree's website for more information.

Great resources for managing your work with technology

Posted on 12:59 by Unknown

Managing Your Work with Technology is a site I just found out about that has some great resources and tips for using technology to get organized and manage your workflow and resources. The site is from Dr. James Hansen, a Professor at Oakland University.

The resources are organized by "work realms" including Time, Information, Documents, Files and Information Sharing. In each realm, Dr. Hansen lists the free resources that he uses to manage these realms and how.

Many of the resources are resources I use and have blogged about, like Google Calendar, Google Drive and  Evernote, but Dr. Hansen has some great ideas and tips here that may be useful to other educators.

Check out the site. https://sites.google.com/site/resourcesandinformation/home/technology
